A Rare Site Amongst One Of America’s Most Famous National Forests

A rare sight!! Yosemite National Park

This park was gazetted as a national park in 1890. It is world famous for its rugged terrain, waterfall and century-old pine trees. It covers 1200 sq km and the “fire” waterfall of El Capitan is one of the most spectacular of all scenery. The spectacular view of the waterfall is created by the reflection of sunlight hitting the falling water at a specific angle. This rare sight can only be seen at a 2-week period towards the end of February. To photograph this rare event, photographers would often have to wait and endure years of patience in order to capture them. The reason is because its appearance depends on a few natural phenomenons occurring at the same time and luck.

1st, Is the formation of the waterfall – The water is formed by the melting of snow and ice at the top of the mountain. It melts between the month of December and January and by the end of February there might not be much snow left to melt.

2nd, is the specific angle of the sun-ray hitting the falling water – The sun’s position must be exactly at a particular spot in the sky. This occurs only in the month of February and at the short hours of dusk. If it is a day full of clouds or something blocking the sun, you won’t see this sight. This coincides with the fact that the weather in the National Park at that time of the year is often volatile and unpredictable.

Dogs Love Rawhide, Even When It's Part Of Your Lamp!

Today our customer service department received a bit of a strange call…

Apparently Julie & David of Princeton Massachusetts came home to find their newly purchased SUA Wall Sconces from Rocky Mountain Cabin Decor  devoured by Indie & Maggie their Labrador Retrievers. Though relieved that the pups had not consumed the antlers that made up the base of the lamp they had indeed dined on the rawhide lamp shades. Just a tip for those with animals when purchasing products that are made with rawhide, bone or hair on hide, these may all be things that appear appetizing to our four-legged friends. Here is a picture of the accomplices caught red pawed. All that remained was the metal supports. Thanks for the great story guys.

Amazing Cabin Photo taken in Meraker, Norway

I just stumbled upon this very impressive photo on Flickr. It features a rustic cabin with an amazing view. The cabin is located in Meraker Norway. Click on the image to see the larger version. The sun contrasting with the clouds and the snow on the roof of the cabin…  very  nice photograph.

Some interesting facts about cabin living in Norway… From late May to late July the sun never completely sets in areas of the North.  From late November to late January, in the North,  the sun never rises above the horizon.  So you have periods of amazing scenery (like this image) to months of darkness.
